Ultrasonic biometry refers to the measurement of eye dimensions using ultrasound waves. In clinics, it is most commonly used to measure the eye’s axial length (front-to-back distance).
The device automatically provides measurements of the anterior chamber depth and lens thickness. These measurements help determine the power of the intraocular lens to be implanted during cataract surgery. Additionally, it is useful in cases of progressive myopia to identify whether the progression is due to changes in the axial length or in the lens.
