This measurement, performed using specialized devices, evaluates the surface of the cornea (the outermost part of the eye, the transparent layer in front of the colored part). It is a non-invasive examination. The obtained data are presented not only as numerical values but also as color-coded maps.
It is used to assess corneal astigmatism, diagnose corneal disorders such as keratoconus, and detect any irregularities on the corneal surface. Nowadays, devices capable of evaluating the posterior surface of the cornea are also available. It is an indispensable measurement tool, especially in refractive surgery, which aims to correct visual errors.
